Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has announced that the state will run a scheme under which the children will be provided dry food items for all school days until the schools reopen.
The food items will include rice and pulses etc. The measure is taking into account the disruption of Mid-day-meal scheme that occurred due to the lockdown of schools in the wake of the pandemic.
Notably, lakhs of children are affected due to the closure of the schools and the resultant discontinuation of the mid-day-meals.
The discontinuation of mid-day-meals has happened across the country and millions of children have been affected. Several state governments are grappling with the situation.
Tamil Nadu has now initiated the scheme to provide succor to the children of the underprivileged benefiting from the mid-day-meal scheme.
The State government has not decided on the question of reopening of schools and to prevent the state of affairs from affecting the nutritional status of the children, the government has taken this step.
Likewise, the state of Kerala has taken steps to provide rice, lentils, sugar, curry powder and salt etc. to school children from pre-primary to class 8 studying in government-aided schools.
The food security measures have been announced in the states by the education ministers also.
