CBSE and Meta Collaborate to Train Students and Teachers in AR and Digital Well-being

As part of their partnership with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Meta, formerly known as Facebook, will train over 10 million students and 1 million teachers in India. The training will be in digital safety, Augmented Reality (AR), and online well-being. The high school curriculum will be democratized by providing accessibility to quality educational content online through modules made available on CBSE’s website.

Collaboration between CBSE and Meta will be on content creation and curriculum development. This will be done through integration of immersive technologies Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) relevant to the evolving digital scene by offering these as skills subjects for students.

Students with various learning difficulties and not having access to lab resources will be able to learn in an engaging manner through immersive education. Through its community skill centres, CBSE will make these new-age skills available to the students of under-served regions of the country, thereby empowering them. Equitable access to resources will help the youth to become creators in the digital economy.

Dr Biswajit Saha, Director (Skills Education and Training) CBSE, said that this collaboration will benefit the teachers by equipping them with the necessary skills in using online tools for effective student engagement. He further said that in this era of ‘Digital India’, the aim is to make responsible digital citizens by introducing Digital Citizenship and Augmented Reality in the curriculum, in addition to quality educational content.

Vice President and Managing Director of Facebook, Ajit Mohan stated, “As a company that is passionate and excited about India’s digital journey, it is our endeavour to provide both educators and students with easy access to quality digital tools to foster a more inclusive and equitable environment. We are united with CBSE in their goal to democratize education for all. We believe access to quality online education resources and new technologies in the form of AR to the country’s youth can be transformational to their learning journey.”
