AP Chief Minister NEP Implementation in Andhra schools

Concerned education department officials have been directed by the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, to focus on the construction of additional classrooms for the NEP (National Education Policy) implementation in the state from the next academic session. Along with taking steps for starting the classroom works, they have been directed to identify the number of teachers required for the NEP implementation. This directive was given in a review meeting held at his camp office with the education department officials.

It was stated by the officials that keeping teacher-student ratio rational and ensuring subject-wise teachers was one of the primary purposes of NEP. Full implementation of the NEP will be spread over three academic years from 2021-22 to 2022-23 and 2023-24. Merger of 25,396 primary schools with upper primary schools and high schools will be done as part of this process. Merger of 2,663 schools with 2,05,071 students took place this academic year with a total of 9.5 lakh students being given access to the NEP this year. The status of satellite foundation schools, foundational schools, foundation plus schools, pre-high schools, high schools and high schools plus schools being set up in the state, were also explained by the officials.

The Chief Minister also spoke on ways to strengthen DIET (District Institute for Education and Training) institutions which included offering quality training to teachers.

He also said that aided institutions unable to run due to various reasons, will be given only one opportunity to merge with the government who will run the institutions retaining their names. Surrendering of the aided schools to the government is voluntary as reiterated by him

Officials were also instructed regarding maintenance of toilets in schools and their regular inspections. For lodging complaints and giving suggestions on school problems/facilities, a phone number would be given to the students/parents which will be displayed in every school. The officials were also asked to submit feedback on the actions taken on the complaints/suggestions.
