Recitation of the preamble to the constitution is now a Saturday activity for the students in schools in M.P. and Maharashtra

A circular has been issued by the Madhya Pradesh School Education Department to the effect that children in government schools will recite preamble on Saturdays after the morning prayers.

The eve of the Republic day saw the beginning of a new tradition that is being taken as an exercise to engender consciousness of the republic in Indian children. Following the morning prayers, the students in government schools across Madhya Pradesh recited the preamble to the constitution of India.

The precedent for the state of M.P. was reported to be set by the state of Maharashtra where the resolution to similar effect was passed a day earlier.

The exercise has been adopted as a practice after a circular was issued making it mandatory for the children in the schools to recite the preamble every Saturday morning.

Public Relations Minister, PC Sharma oversaw the recitation of the preamble by the students at the Rajiv Gandhi High School in Bhopal.

The Minister stated that the order is being implemented with immediate effect and all government schools shall comply.

With the order, this year, a new context has been added to the practice of recitation of the preamble as there has been several instances where the preamble has been read through in processions pertaining to the protests of the CAA and NRC across the country.
