Schools cannot have coaching classes run in their premises, says CBSE directive

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued guidelines to all its affiliated schools to disallow operations of coaching centres within their premises. The board has taken strong exception to the coaching centres that are being run on the pretext of special classes in the schools. Usually, these classes are run parallel to the school and certain integrated courses are being run. Such centres appeal to the students in the name of providing competitive edge and high scores in the board examinations but also disrupt the schooling process while they operate. The board has taken cognizance of the issue after receiving several reports and has issued the guidelines for the school affiliated to it.

The directives are for stopping the operations of the coaching centres with immediate effect. Along with that the board has also directed the affiliated schools to discontinue any sort of commercial activity that goes on in the name of education within the school. The schools are warned with strict action if they fail to comply. The CBSE bye-laws are clear on the point of penalizing the defaulter institutions.

It has been corroborated that coaching classes running in the campuses of the school impede the classroom activities and the school decorum. The students find it hard to balance both and one comes at the expense of the other. Extra-curricular activities take a severe hit in this scenario. It is amply clear that the board does not allow the teachers to engage in private tuitions and involvement with the coaching institutes is recognized akin to giving private tuitions.
