Considering the importance of millets in cognitive as well as physical development of a child and as a part of the International Year of the Millets 2023, Maharashtra schools will be teaching students about different varieties of Millets from August.
According to sources, as part of International Year of Millets 2023, the Maharashtra government has directed its schools to hold an awareness drive on millets starting from 14th August.
As part of the drive, the schools are directed to teach students about various food grains like pearl millets(Bajra), Sorghum Millet (Jowar) and Finger Millet(Ragi)
In light of the Millet Awareness drive, a competition will be held between September 1 and September 15 where students from taluka level will participate in a competition on different millets, for which cash prizes will be given away by the state government.
The prize money will be given from Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirmaan (PM Poshan) earlier known as The Mid-Day Meal scheme.
There will be another competition from October 1st to October 15th on the same topic, where students will be asked to write essays on different millets. In this competition, three winners will be given certificates by the state government.
