The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a circular advising schools on updating their names under the 'PM SHRI' prefix as part of the PM School for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme. Schools can register through the CBSE SARAS portal (https://saras.cbse.gov.in/SARAS) under the 'Change in Name of School' category when the link reopens for the 2025-26 session. Currently, the portal is closed, but applications will be accepted online once it reopens next year.
CBSE specified that schools must apply online, including uploading the approval letter issued by the Ministry of Education. This step is mandatory for schools seeking affiliation with the PM SHRI scheme, which aims to provide high-quality, 21st-century education and prepare students for future challenges. Launched on September 7, 2022, the PM SHRI initiative is a central government flagship program designed to enhance approximately 14,500 schools across India into exemplary institutions, demonstrating the National Education Policy 2020.
The scheme’s budget is set at Rs 27,000 crore over five years, shared between the Centre and states. Upgraded schools include centrally managed Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs), and state-run institutions. The program’s goal is to model top-tier educational practices and heighten the school standards nationwide.
