NCERTForms a Committee to Develop School Syllabi and Textbooks


The National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has set up a high-powered committee- The National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC) to develop school syllabi, textbooksand study materials for classes 3 to 12. M.C Pant, Chancellor of National Institute of Education Planning and Administration (NIEPA) is the Chairperson, and Prof. Manjul Bhargava of Princeton University is the Co-Chairpersonof this committee. 

As a follow-up to the National Education Policy(NEP) 2020, the National Curriculum Framework for School Education(NCF-SE) was initiated with the formation of the National Steering Committee in September 2021. The NCF-SE is now in the advanced phases and acts as a perfect guiding roadmap for syllabus and textbook developers all over the country. The high-powered committee NSTC is set up to take the initiative in this context.

There are other dignitaries on the committee like Dr Sudha Murty, Chairperson, Infosys Foundation; Music Maestro Shankar Mahadevan and Ranjana Arora, Member Secretary, NCERT.

The teaching-learning materials and textbooks developed by the committeewill cover all curriculum areas and subjects. Supporting materials like teacher handbooks are also to be developed. Once developed and finalised by the NSTCthey shall be published and distributed by the NCERT. The committee will be duly assisted by Curricular Area Groups (CAG) with appropriate experts and the NSTC is free to invite and consult with other experts for advice and support. In addition, there will be another committee named the National Curriculum Frameworks Oversight Committee for a detailed orientation and subsequent engagement throughout the development process as and when required. All these facts are as per the notification of NCERT dated 21st July.
