What If Every Girl Knew Self-Defence?

Nearly 1,000 girls from 20 government schools in Ludhiana took part in a 2-month self-defence coaching programme coordinated by the Sports, Physical Education, Fitness & Leisure Skills Council jointly with the Indian Railway Finance Corporation. The programme continued with hands-on coaching sessions throughout, taking part in government schools taking part in January.

The students confidently showed self-defence techniques, presenting how to run away from attacks, defend themselves, and respond efficiently in dangerous positions during the final event. The audience motivated the girls as they executed the skills they had mastered during the coaching. The programme delivered much more than physical defence as it inculcated self-belief and confidence for many participants.

A participant in the 12 to 16 age group, Rajbeer, mentioned that the developing concerns of violence against women urged her to enrol. She mentioned that her parents guided her across the programme and she now feels convinced enough to defend herself while assisting other girls in challenging positions as well.
