CBSE still mulling over the matter of promotion of students


The remainder of current class 10 and 12 has been postponed by the CBSE officially, however, a notification with regards to class 1 to 9 and 11 is yet to come. In view of the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 situation, many state boards have declared to promote students, except for those in 10 and 12, to the next class without any exam.

CBSE spokesperson, Ms. Rama Sharma, clarified the position of the board by stating that the board is only responsible for the 10 and 12 board examinations and decision regarding promotion to other classes will come after the Directorate of Education's (DoE) takes a stand on it.

The educational and institutional bodies have issued notices regarding promotion of students to the next class. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has made an announcement stating that it will direct the general promotion of students from class 1 to 8 regardless to whether they have appeared in the final exams or not.

The Gujarat State Board has made an announcement to similar effect stating that it will promote the students from class 1 to 8 and class 11 without exam, similar announcement has been made the Tamil Nadu government. It must be said that the announcements of the states vary with regard to the subject of promotion of class 11 students.

CBSE and NTA, meanwhile are working on the MHRD directive regarding alternate schedules for the postponed board exams and JEE.
