In alignment with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, a capacity-building program aimed towards the holistic development of around 15 lakh higher education teachers, has been launched by the University Grants Commission (UGC). As the future of education is in the hands of educators and learners, it is important to refine the quality of teachers. And this initiative by UGC aims to enhance the quality of education at all levels by imbuing excellence in teachers as well as teaching methods.
The program focuses on the holistic development of higher education teachers by imbibing ethics and human values as per the Indian culture in teaching approaches. Around 111 institutions across the country have been identified as Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centres (MMTTC) under UGC’s Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme. The training of all 15 lakh teachers in higher education will be accomplished in the coming 2-3 years and the programs will be either online or offline.
It was on the occasion of Teacher's Day that this mission was announced. The themes of the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training programme are holistic education, Indian knowledge systems, academic leadership, governance, research, skill development, inclusivity, technology integration, learning outcomes identification, and assessment. Along with the professional development of the teachers, the program highlights the faculty’s role in institutional development. It is to be noted that a dedicated portal for faculty members has been registered for the capacity-building programs.
