The Directorate of Education (DoE) in Delhi has chosen 6,000 students for entry-level admissions in private recognised unaided schools under the Disadvantaged Group (DG), Children with Special Needs (CWSN), and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) categories in a crucial move towards inclusive education.
The DoE took a computerised lottery to ensure a transparent and fair selection procedure. Based on the 3.1.2025 guidelines, admissions were allowed for nursery, kindergarten, and Class 1. Official information demonstrates that 2,919 children have assured seats in pre-school or nursery, 733 in pre-primary, or KG, and 2,341 in Class 1, contributing to the total number of picked out students to 5,993.
Children in the DG and EWS categories must meet these age criteria as of March 31 under the latest DoE norms. For nursery - 3 to 5 years, for KG - 4 to 6 years, and for class 1 - 5 to 7 years. The DoE allows more flexibility for CWSN applicants. For nursery - 3 to 7 years, for KG - 4 to 8 years, and for Class 1 - 5 to 9 years.
Criteria of Eligibility
The DG category covers children from OBC (non-creamy layer), ST, SC, and other backgrounds, along with those affected by HIV, orphans, and transgender children. The EWS covers children from families with an annual income below RS 5 lakh, and applicants must present a valid income certificate from the Delhi Revenue Department. Antyodaya Anna Yojana or BPL holders of ration cards are eligible as well.
The CWSN applicants must offer a government-issued disability certificate, and no income certificate is needed. The Delhi government rewards its dedication to assuring equitable access to quality education for all children, regardless of physical challenges or socio-economic through this admission cycle.
