Implementation of National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCFFS) has been announced by the Central board of Secondary Education (CBSE). As per the notification, NCFFS 2022 is being adopted by CBSE and all schools affiliated to the board will follow the new 5-year education at foundational stage (nursery to grade2) pattern from the 2023-24 academic session.
The National Council of Educational Research and training (NCERT) developed the new framework in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The aim as stated by the official notice is to “outline the competencies and learning outcomes, general principals and approaches that should guide teaching and learning at foundational stage.” Using this new framework as a guideline, designing and development of curricula, syllabi, and teaching materials can be done by the schools and teachers.
For the clarification of abstract concepts, reinforcement of learning, and making new ideas and concepts easily available to teachers, many examples and illustrations will be included in the teaching materials in this new framework.
As instructed by the notification, “while schools offering classes 1 to 10/12 may make efforts to gradually augment the infrastructural requirements to include pre-primary classes, schools already running foundational classes may continue to offer 3 years of pre-primary education. Detailed instructions regarding submission of OASIS (Online Affiliated School Information System) data pertaining to foundational classes (pre-primary) shall follow.”
