The Government of India has proposed to advance a new curricular system which is being dubbed as the Sainik School curriculum to provide Indian school students a national alternative to the CBSE curriculum.
The government has revealed its plan to open additional Sainik Schools in the country and is looking to partner with private schools and civil society organizations to accomplish the opening of new Sainik Schools across the country.
Notably, the Sainik Schools are the member schools of the India Public Schools Conference and are affiliated with the CBSE. The thought of providing an alternative to the CBSE, therefore, needs further explanation. The Union Minister of State for Defence, Shripad Naik, stated that the schools established under the plan will be affiliated to the Sainik School Society and will have, what he called, a ‘CBSE Plus’ learning ecosystem.
As of date, there are 33 Sainik Schools in the country and the new Sainik Schools will be established out of the desirous private schools, and new schools with the help of NGOs and other organizations.
Reportedly, certain schools have already been contacted and the plan to convert them into Sainik Schools is afoot. The required infrastructural development and curricular systems to support the educational ecosystems is being worked upon.
The government of Uttar Pradesh has been leading in this regard. It has sent a proposal to the center to open Sainik Schools in all its divisional headquarters.
