The CBSE has issued an elaborate safety consultatory for all affiliated schools, advocating them to take active steps to stop dog-bite incidents and promote safer eco-systems. CBSE published this advisory in response to a recent SC directive that emphasises the necessity of fortifying student safety measures throughout schools.

The Safety Push
CBSE invites schools to enforce multiple mitigation and preventive measures to deal with safety risks through this circular. The advisory reacts to increasing worries about the stray dogs roaming inside school campuses and the possible threat they pose to school children. The road maps align with the SOPs released by the AHD department, which released best practices for handling stray dogs in schools and stopping dog-bite occurrences.
Key Directives for Schools
Schools must take the following steps to fortify school campus safety and cut down dog-bite risks under the new CBSE guidelines.
1. Evaluate vulnerabilities
Find out high-risk zones and coordinate soon with local authorities to take out stray dogs from school campuses.
2. Recommend awareness and preparedness
Coordinate regular sessions for staff and children on safe behaviour with animals, timely reporting of occurrences and first aid for bites.
3. Improve physical security
Install and maintain proper boundary walls, secure gates and fencing throughout the school premises.
4. Perform daily inspections
Visit the premises and surrounding areas at least once every 3 months to affirm that no stray-dog habitats exist around.
5. Make sure of the safety
Appoint a Nodal Officer for stray-dog control, cleanliness, and show their contact information at the school entrance.
6. Improve sanitation and waste management
Follow PM POSHAN guidelines for drainage and waste disposal to stop attracting animals.
7. Fortify rabies prevention
Fulfil rabies prevention and awareness activities as suggested by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
8. Follow a holistic safety approach
Carry out CBSE School Safety and Security Guidelines to support overall student well-being.
Tracking and Reporting
CBSE recommends schools to enforce them in a diligent manner with the SC’s directions, although the measures are advisory. CBSE has brought in a reporting form online through which schools should submit small updates on the actions taken to support tracking. CBSE tries to ensure that children can engage in their education without exposure to stoppable hazards through these steps.
By working closely with local authorities, following national public-health guidelines, building awareness, and strengthening infrastructure between staff and students, the Board continues to reaffirm its loyalty to student safety and well-being throughout school networks.
