Chandigarh has acquired the top score in school education across India, gaining 703 by 1000 points. It is the only zone in the Prachesta 1 grade level 701 to 760, setting a crucial enhancement from the previous year’s 687.8. The Performance Grading Index PGI evaluated key areas such as digital learning, learning outcomes, governance and infrastructure.
Chandigarh ruled throughout all domains, pushing its score to the top. Punjab, Kerala, Odisha, Gujarat and Delhi performed laudably as well. These states lie in the Prachesta 3 grade level 581 to 640, showing great performance throughout educational parameters.
The Andaman & Nicobar Islands experienced the most decline, falling by 43 points. Chhattisgarh missed by 39 points, and Lakshadweep dropped by 33 points. These declines raise worries on issues like teaching quality, school access and learning outcomes in these areas.
As Meghalaya is at the bottom with 417 points, Chandigarh leads with a 703 score, setting it in the Akankshi 3 band 401 to 460. Among high and low performers, the variation has reduced from 51 percentage in 2017 to 2018 to 42 percentage in 2023 to 2024.
24 by 36 states have shown yearly improvement, pointing to a trend toward balanced educational growth throughout the country. Chhattisgarh and Andaman need to focus on digital access, infrastructure growth and more to enhance learning quality.
Chandigarh’s notable performance becomes a model for others, showing that focused interventions and consistent policies can raise school education standards, and states depicting declines should act on the PGI findings to carry out meaningful reforms.
