Avoiding Fake Institutions: How to Verify UGC Recognition Online?

The CBSE has recommended that school students should check the UGC recognition conditions of higher educational institutions before applying for admission in the upcoming academic year. This consultatory follows guidelines from the University Grants Commission, which annually releases and updates a list of fake institutions.

Avoiding Fake Institutions How to Verify UGC

The UGC will release yearly public notices and updates regularly about the unrecognised institutions and fake universities list on its official website, as stated in its official notification. This first step attempts to develop consciousness between parents, students, and stakeholders. This will alert them against taking admission in unrecognised and self-styled institutions, as such admissions may severely damage students’ academic and professional life.”

CBSE has instructed institutions to take the following steps as well:

    • Advise Grade 10 & 12 students about the risks related to fake institutions, along with their guardians or parents.
    • Notify students to check the recognition condition of Higher Educational Institutions on the official website (www.ugc.ac.in).
    • Show the advisory on school notice boards and share it through circulars, during Parent-Teacher Meetings and websites.
    • Recommend students to apply only to UGC-accepted Higher Educational Institutions.
